Description
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce will be organizing a 9/11 Luminary Walk on Saturday, September 11. 2,983 paper bags will be lined up beginning at the gazebo at Rotary Park and end at Bernd Park. Each bag will have a name of a person who perished on 9/11. The bags will be be illuminated beginning at dusk. A remembrance ceremony honoring those who perished on 9/11 will be held at 8:15pm at Bernd Park. Those looking to reflect on the events of 9/11 can begin the luminary walk at dusk.
Also, earlier in the day on the 11th, there will be a Freedom Ride starting at 7:30 a.m. to raise money for local firefighters, police officers and emergency medical technicians. The ride starts at Silver Eagle Saloon, in Watertown.
There will be three stops during the Freedom Ride, including the Hartford Fire Department.
The Freedom Ride will arrive in Hartford at approximately 11:45 in the morning. The riders will be coming north on Hwy K, west on Hwy 60 to the Hartford Fire Department at Bernd Park.
Members of the community are encouraged to come out and line the sidewalks along Hwy 60 in their red, white and blue. Let’s show our support for our local Emergency Departments.
Thank you to this event's sponsor, Quad. This event is organized by the Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce.
