SUMMARY:Women in Science: Complementary Health and What the Science Says About Herbal Medicines
DESCRIPTION:More than 70 percent of the United States population report using complementary health approaches at some point in their lifetime. This presentation by Kajua Lor\, PharmD\, BCACP\, Medical College of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy director of Ambulatory Care Practice Advancement and associate professor and chair\, will provide an overview of natural products with a focus on herbal medicines. Participants attending the session will learn about complementary\, integrative\, alternative and herbal medicine\, as well as the history of herbal medicine use\, what the science says\, potential side effects and cautions for common herbal medicines. This lecture is the fourth in the 2018 MCW Women in Science lecture series. The annual series showcases outstanding research by MCW female scientists and provides financial support for their cutting-edge work. Those interested in registering can visit mcw.edu/womeninscience. Series memberships start at $275\, which supports four awards for promising women scientists. Admission\, food and parking are included at all the events. Members are also allowed to invite a guest for free to one event. Students sponsorships are also available for only $25.
