SUMMARY:Tormé Sings Tormé: Celebrating Mel's 100th Year!
DESCRIPTION:Torm Sings Torm is a son's extraordinary homage to his legendary father. This very special tribute features the same hip\, timeless arrangements that the brilliant Marty Paich wrote for and with Mel when the Velvet Fog recorded them. These arrangements were written and voiced specifically for ten pieces (or "dek-tette")\, giving them much more of a flexible\, versatile sound than that of a standard 17-piece big band. Accompanied by all-star musicians\, Steve blazes nimbly through numbers including "It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got that Swing" and "Sweet Georgia Brown\," and gorgeously croons favorites such as "Born to be Blue" and "Wishing/When You Wish Upon a Star." Steve at times breaks down the dek-tette into a quartet or just piano accompaniment to showcase some of Mel's signature songs such as "Blue Moon" and "The Folks Who Live on the Hill." Steve's Torm Sings Torm is an exciting musical evening\, complemented by engaging stories against a beautiful backdrop of archival photos and video some rarely or never-before seen. This lively and loving tribute is simply not to be missed. \n\n\n\nPart of the Forte Bank Main Stage Series
